SaaS MVP planning guide

An MVP should make one valuable workflow usable from beginning to end. A small release is useful when it tests a clear assumption about the product.

Define the user and job

Identify who will use the first release, what they need to accomplish and how success will be observed. Distinguish essential steps from conveniences. Include realistic access and data responsibilities in the initial scope.

Put it in context

Application data and access roles

Review application records and workspace access as part of the data model.

Deliver an end-to-end slice

Choose a workflow that can be completed and evaluated, rather than a collection of disconnected screens. Specify empty states, validation and failure recovery. Those details often determine whether early users can obtain value.

Plan the learning loop

Agree acceptance criteria, support ownership and the questions to review after use. Keep a prioritised list of later features with reasons for inclusion. Expand from evidence instead of treating the first specification as a permanent product roadmap.

Put the guidance to work

Capture your starting point, assign an owner to the next action, and decide what evidence will confirm that it worked.
