Let’s talk
Hearth & Harbor Living / Illustrative project

Moving a homewares catalogue from WooCommerce to Shopify.

A homewares merchant wants a simpler store operation while preserving product relationships, valuable URLs and the ability to recover if launch checks fail.

6-week proposed rollout

An illustrative project with a fictional business and illustrative data. Platform screens are AI-generated examples; supporting screens may show separate sample workspaces.

The challenge

Hearth & Harbor Living

The scenario includes product variants, collection relationships, image references and established search routes. A successful import alone would not confirm that the store is ready: the team also needs to validate destinations, purchase paths and connected operations.

The assignment

A defined brief.

Plan and rehearse the move before changing the live store. The illustrative inventory contains 240 products, 480 variants, 18 collections and 720 image references. These are sample scope counts for the walkthrough.

What the project includes

A scope the team can review.

  • Source catalogue inventory and field mapping
  • Dry-run import with entity counts and exception review
  • URL redirect map with important landing-page priorities
  • Purchase-path and integration acceptance checklist
  • Cutover responsibilities, rollback criteria and monitoring plan
The proposed approach

From discovery to handover.

Inventory and map

Capture the source store structure and decide how each product field, variant and collection will be represented in Shopify.

Separate URLs that have a direct replacement from those that need a deliberate consolidation decision. Preserve search intent when choosing the destination.

Rehearse the import

Run a controlled import and compare source counts with the destination. Review missing media, unmatched values and variant relationships individually.

The sample Matrixify screen includes three items for review. Treat exceptions as release decisions, with an owner and resolution, rather than hiding them inside an overall completion percentage.

Cut over with clear gates

Freeze agreed source changes, import the final delta and validate priority redirects, stock behaviour and checkout handoff.

Keep recovery responsibilities explicit. Monitor important destination pages and order workflows after launch, then close the migration only after the agreed checks pass.

Tools and delivery

The work, in context.

Sample platform screens illustrate the tools and review process described here. Open any image for a closer look.

Migration URL mapping

Map source URLs to their destinations and record the redirect acceptance status.

Acceptance criteria

How we would check the work.

Review areaAcceptance condition
Data reconciliationProduct, variant, collection and media counts reconcile, with every exception documented.
URL continuityPriority old URLs reach the intended destination without unnecessary redirect chains.
Buying journeyRepresentative products, variants and stock states complete the agreed purchase checks.
Cutover readinessLaunch ownership, monitoring windows and rollback triggers are agreed before switching traffic.
The intended outcome

What the handover should enable.

The proposed handover is a reconciled catalogue, an intentional URL map and an operational launch plan. Traffic retention and sales continuity would be assessed using real source records and the actual launch period.

The handover

Something the team can use.

  • Import files, reconciliation notes and exception decisions
  • Approved redirect map and validation records
  • Launch checklist, recovery instructions and support ownership
