GA4 duplicate conversions troubleshooting

Duplicate conversion events can arise from multiple triggers, repeated completion states or several installations. Diagnose one controlled journey before changing the reporting configuration.

Reproduce the duplicate

Choose a test form and record the expected event. Observe the sequence from submission to success, including redirects or thank-you views. Note when two events appear and whether they use the same name and parameters.

Put it in context

Trace the delivery paths

Inspect site code, tag-manager configuration, plugins and any server-side forwarding involved. Look for overlapping mechanisms that respond to the same success. Do not assume the analytics interface itself is creating the duplication.

Confirm the corrected contract

Retest one successful enquiry, a failed attempt, a repeated click and a reload. Reconcile with the receiving business system. Record the change date because historical reports may still contain events collected under the old setup.

Put the guidance to work

Capture your starting point, assign an owner to the next action, and decide what evidence will confirm that it worked.
