Shopify migration checklist

A migration checklist should cover data, URLs, connected systems and operating readiness. Moving the visual design is only one part of moving a store.

Inventory the source

Record products, customers, content, media and integrations. Identify which records can be transferred, which require transformation and which need a different approach. Confirm platform-specific restrictions before committing to the migration scope.

Put it in context

Migration URL mapping

Map source URLs to their destinations and record the redirect acceptance status.

Rehearse the transfer

Use representative records and compare the result with the source. Build a URL map and test destination pages. Check catalogue relationships, product options and the operational processes that depend on the migrated data.

Control the cutover

Agree the change window, final data sync, sign-off owner and rollback conditions. Test purchase journeys and notifications. Preserve the reconciliation record so missing or duplicated records can be investigated after launch.

Put the guidance to work

Capture your starting point, assign an owner to the next action, and decide what evidence will confirm that it worked.
